Trainers sucks

I did the exact same work today as I did last week, and it wasn't nearly as fun. Actually it suck, but I was able to make it through the whole hour. The magic happened in garage. It was rather cold, my toes actually went numb. This video is at 29 minutes.

week 3

The week went well, I was kinda feeling like I might beat my goal by more than 1/2 a pound, but 1/2 a pound is better than nothing. My goal for next week will be 218.

Trainer time

In the past, and more than likely in the future, I have not enjoyed spending time on my trainer. This evening however was different, for 60 short minutes I achieved what most cyclist can only dream of; trainer euphoria. For the most part I have a very hard time riding for more than 30 minutes, and getting my heart rate above 170 was nearly impossible. I also normally have a lot of hand pain while riding. I made some saddle adjustments based on an article I found online, and my hands felt great the entire hour. Here is how the hour went down:

5 minute warm up

4 minutes at 15o-160bpm

1 minute at 170+

3 minutes rest

6 minutes at 150-160bpm

1 minute at 170+

3 minutes recovery

6 minutes at 150-160bpm

1 minute at 170+

then repeated

The last 2 sets were the best, I was able to push really hard, and still feel good. The last 1 minuter I held it above 185 for the last 30 seconds. Gotta love the trainer.. at least today.

Oh ya, I was watching Breaking Away during the ride.

week 2 complete

I made it. It took a lot of work yesterday. Over 2 hours of racquetball, and an hour of church basketball, and no dinner. Probably not the best way to lose weight, but it didn't seem as though it was going to happen, so in order to hit the goal, drastic measuring need to be taken . This not the way I want to lose weight, so hopefully things will go well over the weekend and I can get ahead of the game. My weekly goal is 220.9 . I find it weird that I am hitting my goals right on, like not 226.1 or 222.9... but right on the money. Maybe its because all week I repeat the number to myself, and I go to bed repeating it. I am sure it wont keep happening, cuz if it does, folks might start thinking that I am cheating. :)

week 2 blues

The combination of not being diligent over the weekend, and it being the second week of "project 200" is making for a hard last few days. My weight is holding pretty steady, so unless something drastic happens, the 223 might not happen. The p90x is going OK, I am pretty sore, but I am feeling good. Tomorrow I will do my p90x workout in the morning, and I am considering riding my bike to work, then riding an hour after work. I will let you know if I step up and do it.

I have being thinking about some of the things I want to accomplish in cycling this and thought I might share a few of them.

1. upgrade from a Cat 5 to a Cat 4

2. win a BDO criterium in the C flight and be able to compete in the B flight

3. Pack finish in the cat 4/5 flight of the Ogden Harvest moon Criterium.

4. Climb the North Ogden Divide in less than 22 minutes.

5. Finish Lotoja 30 minutes faster than last year.******

6. Race the Utah cyclocross series in the B flight and not get lapped.

Some pretty lofty goals, but with some hard work I feel its all achievable.

**** (goal depended on Jason's willingness to ride, ands Steph's willingness to let ride.)

The Weekend

Weekends are hard when one is attempting to eat right. I didn't do very well. I ate less than I normally would have, if I wasn't trying to watch it, but i probably ate more calories this weekend then I did all week. I am still going to try for the 223 goal.

I did get some amazing riding in though. Jason H. and I took the cross bikes out in the hills above Vernal and man was it fun. Some really steep dirt snow pack roads. We rode for about an hour and a half, which was about enough in the 20 degree weather. I took my camera and was planing on getting some epic shoots, but the bleeding batteries died after 3 pictures. Rats.

Week one complete

I made my weekly goal. Week one of a "get fit" plan is usually the easiest so hopefully things keep going well. I am sorta nervous for this week. The second week is normally the hardest for me. SO i think a goal of 223 is lofty enough. I will be 223 next Friday. (positive thinking) We are out in Vernal this weekend and Jason and I are planing on getting out on the cross bikes today, that is if its not butt cold like it is right now. The current temp is 10 F, and I have a 18 degree minimum requirement. I am sure it will get there by this afternoon.

p90x

On Monday I started a home fitness program called p90x. I am three days in and I am mucho sore. My calves and my forearms are the only muscles that are not sore. It is a pretty intense program, about 1 hour and 15 minutes a day. I have been getting up at 6am and doing it before work. It is working out pretty good so far. I would much rather be ridding my cycle, but this is means to an end. It is a 90 day program, but I don't think I am going to go past 60 days, maybe 30, depending on the weather. :)

Here are some more pics from the weekend cross race

First and Last

Yesterday was the last cyclocross race of the season, but the first race of 2009. The race was at Wheeler farm in salt lake. The temperatures were manageable in the mid 20's. The conditions were hard but really fun. The entire coarse was snow packed, so it maybe it really interesting. Jason H. and I took a warm up lap, and by the time we got back they were already lining up, so we got pretty poor starting positions. It started out super slow, and it took along time to open up. Jason passed me about 1/2 way through the first lap and i didn't see him again until the end. All in all it was a fun race. The Utah cyclocross series is over, sadly, so it will be 10 months before the fun and pain returns.

First ride of the year

It has been a tradition of mine, to ring in the new year with a bike ride on new years day. For the last 4 years I have been able to accomplish it. Last year was pretty short, it was below 15 and that makes for unfun riding. This year everything was quite perfect. Good weather. Ample free time during the day. I planed on riding about 30 miles. I was about 6 miles in and out of corner of my eye I see a brown Cocker Spaniel bolting towards the road. I have had quite a few dog experiences in my bike life. Alot of barkers, a few chases, but never a comocazi dog. That all changed today. This dog made a beeline for my front wheel, and I took a header over my handlebars at about 19 miles per hour.

As I picked myself off the pavement, I hear the dog off in the distance crying. The owner of dog must have felt that if I saw him beating the day lights out the dog, I might not beat the day lights out of him. It must have worked, because I didn't get to mad at the guy. I was annoyed, but my wheels were still true, and pain wasn't bad, so I went on the way with some road rash, a bump on elbow, and new dog experience under my belt. I did finish the 30 miles though and it was fun.
